So having been a tattooed person for a whole 2 weeks, I've encountered a bevy of reactions. I was under the impression that most people in our generation were a bit more accepting, or at the very least not as judgmental. However, the most interesting one has been from my brother. He said that he would never want to become a "walking billboard if someone's not paying me". I once heard the same statement regarding tattoos from my last roommate, who happened to be 40.
So what's your Opponion? I've heard from some of the more supportive people on here when I posted the pictures, but I want to know from everyone. Yes, this is a form of people-watching for me. I love finding out what makes people tick.

Can you find the post of the tattoo or give a picture? I don't remember seeing it.
I can give you an opinion then since my is rather odd

I have tattoos, but I also see people covered in a ton of random tattoos and wonder what keeps them coming back for more. Also, I have what I call country club tattoos. Everything can be hidden by shorts and a polo shirt.

Ignore them. I mean I love tattoos and I've seen some people with tattoos that will blow your mind. I'm a fan of the half body tattoos but its really addictive so it's hard to curb the spread. I don't judge people based on their tattoos but its the world we live in. People are so set in their ways that they antagonize anything that isn't a norm. I mean I remember when I got my first mo'hawk. My mom was livid and my brother said he'll never do it. Well now I'm sure you can guess which one of us still has a Mohawk and when I cut mine, my mom was mad because now guess what.....she liked it and it made me look good....smh. Back to the point, just ignore everyone and enjoy your tattoos for yourself

I wonder the reasons behind what I see. I have no problem with tats, I just have problems with that tribal intertwined vine leg or arm tattoo from college that was obviously a trend and meaningless to that person. Again, I have no problems with tattoos, they can be like a collection of life's events. I would just hope that Marvin the martian on your ass or that butterfly on the lower back or the angel wings on the shoulder blades that everyone got or is getting in college means something 60 years from now.
Someone at work has a flame job on their ankle. Red ink and everything. It was a total mistake she says and can't afford the umpteen thousand or more to get it removed/fixed if thats even possible.

Mine is just below the shorts line (back of left calf) specifically so it could be seen when I wear shorts. Country club tattoos, I've never heard that one before, that's a keeper.
I have plans to one day be about 50% tattoos, but mine won't be random stuff, at least not random to me.

Meh, I don't care about tatoos. To each his own.
I do think that it would be silly for me to get one. There are very few things in my life that I liked 20 years ago that I still like with the same fervor. I imagine it'll be the same 20 years from now. There's a billion other ways to accessorize that are not quite so...permanent.
Pragmatically, there are people who will judge negatively on them period so if you get one that cannot be covered you are limiting your options.

1. I currently live in a very tattoo friendly city. Our tattoo parlors (yes multiple) actually have (had) TV shows, so they are generally accepted here.
2. I used to live in an area where tattoos were rather not accepted (at least visible tattoos). It was an older area where these things were considered to be marks of miscreants.
3. It is very situational. I personally have no issues with tattoos, I have a few and plan to get more. That being said, in a professional environment, I would not want to see tattoos. I would still consider it to be "unprofessional".

I think it's sexy when a girl has one sleeve or a side piece and nothing else. But, that's just like my opinion.

It depends on the tattoo. A simple band around the arm or leg? That can look pretty cool, perhaps even tasteful. Flaming skulls and purple dragons? Super cheesy.

See, I'm okay with the idea of getting one that may seem silly or stupid years from now. Tattoos should tell a story. At the time in your life, that was what you wanted to be or wanted to convey. As they fade with time, it shows the changes we go through as well.

I'm still trying to understand people when it comes to tattoos. For the most part, people I don't know don't say anything at all really, I do get asked sometimes why do I have tattoos, or why did I get this or that, or whatever. I just say, "because I wanted to, it is what i wanted", and it always seems people have a huge problem wrapping their head around that idea. It seems that most people think that people get tattoos for the attention, or they want people to look at them, that sort of thing.
For example, I have a wrist tattoo on both arms, among other things, people always ask why it's "facing the wrong way", and I always tell them, I got the tattoo for me, so I put it right side up, so I can read it. And people always look at me like I got a dick growing out of my forward, but my point still stands. Couldn't give a shit less what people think of the tats. Some people are more understanding, but the most judgmental ones I've found are actually other tattooed people. Most non tattooed people are just curious.

I've had both no tattoos, covered completely and one with a whole back piece and nothing else. It doesn't matter, the girl that was covered had 666 tattooed on her left ass cheek, I always got a chuckle out of that one.

As someone who's had tattoos since I was a teenager, I couldn't care less what people think of tattoos, and I hate when people try to talk to me about them. I would probably throw up if I ever heard someone refer to themselves as a "tattooed person" in real life. In the culture I grew up in, everyone had tattoos, so no one defined themselves as being someone who had tattoos. I blame reality tv. I wish we could go back to when just criminals, bikers, and sailers had them. Then I wouldn't have to worry about strangers asking me about my skin.

I don't think I have seen a tattoo and been like "oh that's cool that looks better than no tatoo" I will never get one. I see some some people and they have some weird or random thing and I think they must be crazy. People who have names and dates of people who have died yeah I guess that's noble but I also think if they were that important to me I would remember them and have no need to put it on my body.
I think most people get tattoos so that other people will ask them about them. Oh you are so deep and stuff cuz someone died and you put their name on you.
I am pretty much anti tattoo if you cant tell. I sound really judgemental about people and maybe I am.
I think If I were to ever get a tatoo which is like 0% probability it would be a very simple graphic design and my mom would probably stab me and/or not talk to me for a long time.

I've been in that club for a decade now and a word of warning. After you get one, you will want more. I only have two at this point, but would do three if given the chance. Mine are both hidden by sleeves (even short sleeves) so I don't get to see too many reactions unless it's a pool or beach. Haven't really had anyone stare or care.
I was out with the kids yesterday and saw a guy with a topless mermaid on his right leg. Like graphically, enhanced, topless. It was very strange, not sure I would ever come to do something like that. Well I know I wouldn't, and if I had I would at least cover her up later.
Anyway, rambling. Jake is awesome, people can shut up.

My sister has a beautiful upper arm piece in progress. She is in marine science and knows she will never be working in a business casual office environment. At her graduation this weekend, my great-aunt loved it, and another aunt was not so pleased.
I am an extremely accepting person actively fighting the knee-jerk "trashy" reaction that I somehow picked up somewhere in my upbringing (despite taking my mom to get her tattoo when I was 16 and having a few non-standard piercings myself). Your body, your business. I work out at an mma gym so I joke that I just need some ink to make me as good as all the pro fighters there who are covered in tattoos.
For career and practicality purposes, I don't think I'd get any of my own in the near future. I dress business casual and I wouldn't want anything visible in a sleeveless dress. I don't have anything I'd really want on me forever besides maybe our Hungarian family crest, which would have to be massive for the detail involved and I don't think my Nagymami would have given her blessing if she was still here.
So basically, I can appreciate the art, don't mind them in general, but not for me right now.

Well, I have 12 so my opinion is clearly that I like them, and will probably keep getting more till the day I die.
I totally understand people who prefer to keep their skin stock, but me personally, I've always preferred it modified.

As an IT guy with 40+ hours of tattoos I get a few different responses, so far mine have all pretty positive. I have gotten a few funny responses while holding the door for people "I didn't expect someone like you to do that" but otherwise pretty accepted.
My first thought was depends on the image. Looks like the Corvette racing logo- would I rock it? No, but I'm not a Corvette guy. I think it's a legit, bright tattoo, and at a track you will get A TON of love for it. Only thing I'd say is have them touch up the black when it heals.
But welcome to the club buddy.

Thanks man. I need to get it tweaked anyway. She left an open spot in the top corner to give it some dimension, but I think that's going to need some lighter yellow or white to really give it the shine effect we were going for. I'll get them to touch it up then.

I was pointing out to somebody else, I was the same way thinking I could only get things that I'm 100% on loving for the rest of my life. However, an artist who is mostly covered himself shared his perspective with me. He said that as you age and progress in your life, your older tattoos might not mean as much or the same things to you, but that those tattoos are a marker of where you were and who you were at that time in your life. They'll fade, stretch, shrink, change over the years the same way you will, and that as for meaning, well a person can learn new knowledge on any given day that changes their outlook on life. The tattoo is just a representation of who you were, and a mile marker for how far you've come.
That being said, most of the stuff I get will be representative of myself, my passion, or my life. I probably won't get too many more as literal as Jake, but even if I hate the C8 because they've made it a mid-mounted TTV6, I'll still love the 1-7, and Jake will still represent that for me.

Really cool and clean tattoo! Is it on the inside of your leg? That may be the only thing I'd disagree with. I prefer to have it somewhere like my shoulder so I could easily cover it...
edit: I guess you could wear jeans, but... thats my opinion
I kinda want one.. but a small one that is so easily covered

Thanks man! It's on the back of my left calf. I know the placement is odd in that picture, but it's dead center on the back of my leg lol.
And for anything that's any kind of formal, I wear jeans or khakis anyway. I like that mine is right on the cusp of visible when I wear shorts.

I like tasteful tattoos. Something with history or emotion attached to it for the person who got it is good, a tattoo cause you got drunk in college is not so good. I've seen some pretty bad tattoos.
I feel like it is good if you can have it hidden under clothes. By this I mean don't have a tattoo on your face/neck/hands, I just can't see it looking professional, especially if it's an offensive/stupid design.
Arms, legs, chest, back, are fair game. I know of a girl from highschool that has her daughter's name, date of birth, and footprints tattooed on her chest. It's an interesting idea, and fairly well done.
I've heard people say that it is a good idea to have a photo/print of the tattoo you want to get, and put it somewhere you'll see it multiple times a day, and if you don't get sick of it after 6 months you'll probably be good to get it.
Having said all this, I do want a tattoo. I had knee surgery to replace my left ACL when I was 16, which resulted in a small spot on my leg where there is no feeling. I want a tattoo there, but I have no idea what I would want or get.
